Private Art Lessons With Sonja Kanno
For beginners and intermediate artists
Private one-on-one painting lessons will be completely personalized and tailored to your individual needs and requests. While the class focuses on painting with acrylics, other mediums such as watercolor, pastels, or collages can also be explored.
What You Can Expect
During each lesson, you can work with acrylic paints on paper, canvas board, or stretched canvas, with all the necessary materials and painting tools provided. Based on your skills, you will be guided through the fundamentals of composition, color theory, and paint textures, as well as various painting techniques. You will learn how to create a painting from start to finish, by developing an idea or concept, creating sketches and studies, and translating them into a final artwork. Throughout several classes, you will be able to build a cohesive body of artwork and find your unique artistic style.

What To Bring
Materials
All painting materials will be provided, but if you require specific colors, paints, or other mediums, please ensure they are available in advance and bring them to your lesson if necessary.
Apron & Slippers
Artist’s paints can be difficult to remove from clothing, so please bring an apron or wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint on. Wearing slippers is required inside the entire studio building. Alternatively, you can also wear socks, but please keep in mind that your socks might get dirty.
Portfolio, Sketches & Inspiration
If you have any artwork, sketches, or inspirational materials relevant to your class, please bring them with you or prepare digital images on your smartphone/tablet.
Notes
Please bring a notebook or sketchbook to take notes and track your progress.
Location
Lessons take place at the painting studio in Asakusa, East Tokyo, near Ueno. Once your appointment date and payment have been confirmed, you will receive an email with the directions. Please note that the studio is located on the second floor of an old building, accessible through a steep staircase. Students who have mobility issues may have difficulties accessing the studio.
